Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme targets loans for 300,000 Punjab families
The provincial government has already disbursed over Rs284.4 billion in loans to more than 217,000 families.
Over 1.52 Million Applications Received
Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said the government had set a target of helping more than 300,000 families through the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme. The initiative is a priority project of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
According to officials, applications for interest-free loans have crossed 1.52 million. The high number of applications reflects strong demand for financial support to build homes.
Billions in Interest-Free Loans Disbursed
Officials briefed Bilal Yasin on the progress of the housing scheme and reported that more than 217,000 families had received loans worth over Rs284.4 billion. The financial assistance is intended to help eligible families build their own homes.
The programme focuses on supporting deserving families who currently live in rented houses and cannot easily afford to construct their own homes. The government aims to make homeownership more accessible by offering loans without interest.
More Than 126,000 Houses Completed
Officials from the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) informed the minister that 126,239 houses had been completed under the scheme across the province. This marks a key step in the programme’s efforts to help families secure permanent housing.
The government aims to expand the initiative and provide assistance to more eligible applicants. However, the pace of future progress will depend on the implementation of the scheme and the availability of support for qualifying families.
Government Promises Transparency and Merit
Bilal Yasin said the government was working to ensure transparency and merit in the selection and distribution process. He added that the main goal was to help as many deserving families as possible build their own homes through interest-free loans.
The minister said the large number of applications showed how important the scheme was for people seeking affordable housing. Further progress towards the target will depend on how efficiently applications are processed and loans are provided.
The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Scheme could help many families move from rented accommodation to homes of their own. Interest-free loans may reduce some of the financial pressure on families who cannot afford conventional housing finance.
However, receiving a loan does not automatically mean a house will be completed. Transparent selection, timely loan disbursement and regular progress updates will be important to ensure that the programme reaches the families who need it most.
