(Web Desk): Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said the government had received more than 1.528 million applications for loans under Apni Chhat Apna Ghar.

The high number of applications reflects strong public interest in the housing programme.

Over 1.5 Million Applications Received

Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme aims to provide interest-free loans to more than 300,000 families by the end of the current financial year. The programme is designed to help deserving families build their own homes and reduce their dependence on rented houses.

The scheme was launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to support families who cannot easily afford to build a home. Eligible applicants can receive interest-free financial assistance to help them construct their own houses.

Over Rs284 Billion Released to Families

Officials have released more than Rs284.4 billion to over 217,000 families under the programme. The financial support is intended to help beneficiaries move forward with building their homes.

Bilal Yasin received a briefing on the scheme’s progress from officials of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA). During the briefing, he was informed that 126,239 houses had been completed across Punjab under the initiative.

Government Focuses on Affordable Homeownership

Bilal Yasin said the main purpose of the scheme was to help deserving families living in rented homes build houses of their own. Interest-free loans are intended to make home construction more affordable for people who face financial difficulties.

He also said the large number of applications showed the importance of the programme to the public. According to the minister, transparency and merit are being given priority in the selection and distribution process.

300,000-Family Target Set for This Financial Year

The Punjab government aims to provide loans to more than 300,000 families by the end of the current financial year. Reaching this target will depend on the pace of loan distribution and progress in processing applications.

The scheme has already supported thousands of families, with more than 126,000 houses reported as completed. The government’s next challenge will be to maintain progress and ensure that eligible families receive assistance fairly and on time.

The scheme could help more low-income families move from rented homes to homeownership. However, meeting the 300,000-family target will require timely loan payments, transparent selection and continued monitoring of construction progress.
