(Web Desk): Pakistan has disbursed Rs51.13 billion under the Apna Ghar housing scheme, while approved financing reaches Rs351.3 billion for 60,349 applications.

The federal government has released Rs51.13 billion through its flagship affordable housing initiative, the Apna Ghar Program, also known as Ghar Ho To Apna. The scheme is designed to help eligible Pakistani families buy, build or complete their homes.

Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Schehzad shared the latest figures on X on Friday. The data provides an update on how much financing has been approved and how much has actually reached applicants.

Rs351 billion approved for housing applications

As of 4 September, the government had approved financing worth Rs351.3 billion for 60,349 applications under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Program.

However, only Rs51.13 billion has been disbursed through 9,717 loans so far. This means a large portion of the approved financing has yet to reach borrowers.

The program currently has an approval rate of 38.5 percent. The average loan amount is approximately Rs5.26 million, giving applicants access to financing for different housing needs.

The government’s latest figures also show that approved financing increased by Rs38.3 billion in one week. This represents a rise of more than 12 percent, indicating growing activity under the housing initiative.

Major gap between approved and released funds

Despite the increase in approved financing, the difference between approved and disbursed amounts remains substantial.

Of the Rs351.3 billion approved so far, only around Rs51 billion has been released to applicants. In practical terms, this means that many people who have received approval may still be waiting for their loans to be processed and paid.

The government has identified faster disbursement as an immediate priority. Officials want approved loans to move more quickly into actual home purchases, construction projects and house completion.

This step is important because approval alone does not provide families with the funds they need to begin or finish their housing plans. The impact of the scheme will depend largely on how efficiently approved financing reaches borrowers.

How the Apna Ghar Program works

The Apna Ghar Program was introduced to make housing finance more accessible for eligible Pakistani families. Under the scheme, applicants can seek financing to purchase a home, construct a new house or complete an existing property.

The program offers financing of up to Rs10 million. Borrowers can repay the amount over a period of up to 20 years, giving families a longer period to manage their monthly payments.

One of the scheme’s key features is a fixed interest rate of 5 percent for the first 10 years. This provision is intended to make housing loans more predictable and affordable for applicants who may otherwise struggle with changing financing costs.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to address housing needs and expand access to formal home financing. For many families, the availability of affordable loans can determine whether they can purchase a home or complete construction.
