Applications open for higher studies
The Higher Education Commission has opened applications for HEC Commonwealth Scholarships 2027–28, offering opportunities for Pakistani and AJK students to pursue higher education abroad.
The programme includes master’s and PhD opportunities under the Commonwealth Scholarships scholarship.
The scholarships are being managed by HEC in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom.
The deadline to submit an online application is October 20, 2026.
The HEC scholarships could provide an important opportunity for students looking to continue their education in the UK.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be Pakistani or Azad Jammu and Kashmir nationals and permanent residents of Pakistan or AJK.
Dual nationals cannot apply, while there is no upper age limit for candidates.
For a master’s programme, applicants must have a first-division bachelor’s degree representing 16 years of education in a relevant field.
For PhD studies, candidates need a first-division master’s, MS or MPhil degree representing 17 or 18 years of education in the relevant field.
Applicants must not have a second or third division in their latest degree.

Students awaiting results can apply
Candidates who are waiting for their final results can also submit applications.
However, they must receive and provide their final degree and transcript before the academic session starts in August or September 2027.
Students applying for HEC Commonwealth Scholarships 2027–28 must also meet the separate eligibility conditions of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for their selected award.
Applicants should carefully check the requirements before submitting their forms.
HAT score is required
Another major requirement is the HAT test.
Applicants must have a minimum score of 60 out of 100.
HEC will accept eligible HAT test results taken on or after October 25, 2024.
Only HAT-I, HAT-II, HAT-III and HAT-IV categories will be accepted for scholarship nominations.
Tests taken for admission to Pakistani universities will not be considered valid for this programme.
Candidates should therefore check their HAT test category and score before applying.
