A 21-year-old female student of a Lahore university is in critical condition after attempting to take her own life by jumping from the second floor of a campus building, police and hospital sources confirmed on Monday.
Following the incident, the student was immediately shifted to the university’s hospital, where doctors provided emergency medical treatment. Hospital staff said her condition remains critical, and she is under close medical observation.
Police reached the scene soon after the incident and have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and possible reasons behind the suicide attempt. The incident has raised serious concerns as it comes only days after another student at the same university reportedly died after jumping from the fourth floor of a building. Students and university officials said these back-to-back incidents have created fear and anxiety across the campus.
Psychologists and mental health experts have pointed out that rising academic pressure, mental stress, and personal issues among young people often contribute to such incidents. They stressed the need for parents and educational institutions to pay close attention to students’ mental well-being and provide timely counseling and support.
Police and university administration have urged students and the public to remain vigilant and supportive. They appealed to classmates and faculty members to report any unusual behavior or visible signs of mental distress so that timely help can be provided.
