The announcement came from Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on social media platform X. He said the decision was made after consulting weather experts, teachers, and parents to ensure children’s safety during severe winter conditions.
All educational institutions, including primary, middle, high, and higher secondary schools, will halt academic activities during the break.

However, the notifications have also been sent to district education authorities to ensure proper implementation of the holidays.
Every year, December in Punjab brings extreme cold, fog, and smog, disrupting daily life. This year, many districts experienced particularly low temperatures and heavy fog, causing experts, teachers, and parents to advise the government to declare winter holidays promptly.
Furthermore, Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized that children’s health is the top priority. He urged parents to take precautions against the cold and encouraged making holidays productive with safe and engaging activities for students.
