(Web Desk): Sindh has ordered students to be shifted from 6,220 unsafe school buildings as monsoon rains raise fears of structural failures.

The Sindh Education Department has declared 6,220 school buildings across the province dilapidated and unsafe, prompting authorities to relocate students during the monsoon season.

The department’s Monitoring Wing identified the buildings as dangerous or structurally vulnerable, raising concerns about the safety of students, teachers and other school staff.

Students to be moved to safer premises

Under a directive issued by the Education Department, students studying in unsafe buildings will be shifted to nearby schools or other suitable premises.

Authorities have been instructed to ensure that students can continue their education without major disruption while dangerous buildings remain vacant.

Lists of unsafe and partially dilapidated school buildings across all 30 districts have been shared with the respective deputy commissioners.

Alternative arrangements ordered

Deputy commissioners have been directed to coordinate with Education Department officials and arrange suitable alternative locations for affected students.

Officials have also been asked to ensure that academic activities continue at the alternative premises throughout the monsoon period.

The move is aimed at preventing any incident caused by weakened school structures during heavy rainfall.

Three districts face major concern

Badin, Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar have reportedly recorded comparatively high numbers of schools classified as dangerous.

Deputy commissioners in affected districts have already started identifying suitable schools and premises where displaced students can continue attending classes.

Monsoon raises safety fears

The decision comes as monsoon rains increase the risk to buildings that are already in poor condition.

Heavy rainfall could further weaken damaged roofs, walls and other structural components, increasing the possibility of collapses.

Officials are therefore prioritising the relocation of students and staff from the most vulnerable buildings to reduce the risk of accidents during the rainy season.
