The Punjab government has decided to close all educational institutions across the province from March 10 to March 31 due to the ongoing regional situation and rising economic pressure linked to the fuel crisis.
According to officials, schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed during this period. However, examinations will continue according to the previously announced schedule. To ensure learning continues, online classes will be arranged for students.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved several emergency steps to deal with the difficult economic situation caused by regional conflict and fuel shortages.
Under these measures, fuel supply for provincial ministers has been completely suspended until the petroleum crisis improves. In addition, petrol and diesel allowances for government officers’ vehicles have been reduced by 50%.

Strict limits have also been placed on official protocol vehicles. Only one security vehicle will be allowed to accompany ministers and senior government officers when necessary.
The chief minister also introduced a “work from home” policy for government offices. Only essential staff will attend offices while the rest will work remotely. Official meetings will be conducted through online platforms and teleconferences to reduce fuel consumption.
For public convenience, e-business services and the “Maryam ki Dastak” service will continue without interruption. At the same time, the government has banned outdoor official events across Punjab, and the well-known Horse and Cattle Show has been postponed.
To prevent misuse of fuel supplies, district petroleum monitoring committees will be formed in every district. The Punjab Information Technology Board has been assigned to develop a track and trace system for petroleum products. The system will involve district administration, police, and other government departments.

Officials have further directed district administrations to closely monitor the supply and demand of essential food items. Citizens have been advised to avoid large outdoor gatherings, unnecessary late-night shopping, and panic buying or hoarding of essential goods.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also praised Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir for taking what she described as brave decisions during the current crisis. She warned that strict action would be taken against anyone trying to exploit the difficult situation.
She added that strong nations face challenges with unity, patience, and wisdom.
