Punjab schools to open summer camps during holidays
The Punjab Education Department has decided to allow schools across the province to arrange summer camps for one month during summer vacations to help students complete their academic syllabus.
According to officials, the summer camps will be conducted in the early morning from 7:30am to 9:30am to protect students and teachers from extreme heat. The initiative aims to reduce academic pressure and ensure completion of coursework before the start of the next academic phase.
Education authorities said participation in the camps will focus mainly on important subjects and pending syllabus work. Schools have also been directed to follow safety measures during the hot weather, including proper classroom ventilation and availability of drinking water for students.
The decision comes as Punjab continues to experience rising temperatures and heatwave conditions in several cities. By limiting camp timings to early morning hours, the department hopes to continue educational activities without exposing children to intense daytime heat.
Officials believe the camps will help students improve learning outcomes and prepare better for upcoming examinations. Parents have shown mixed reactions, with some welcoming the opportunity for extra academic support while others expressing concern over children attending schools during vacations.
Education experts say such short academic camps can help cover learning gaps, especially for students who struggled to complete lessons during the regular session.
The Punjab government is expected to issue detailed guidelines to schools regarding attendance, teaching schedules and heat safety measures in the coming days.
