Italy Student Visa update 2026: New bank statement rules revealed

(Web Desk): Italy student visa rules updated as bank statement requirement rises to €10,179.85 yearly, impacting Pakistani students applying for 2026–2028 admissions.

Italy has significantly increased the bank statement requirement for student visas, setting the new financial threshold at €10,179.85 per year for international students. The update applies to those applying for a Study Visa for University Enrollment (Type D visa) for higher education programs.

The revised requirement has been published on Universitaly Portal, the official platform managed by Italy’s Ministry of University and Research. The new rules will be applicable for the academic years 2026–2027 and 2027–2028.

New Financial Requirement: What Has Changed?

Under the updated guidelines, international students must demonstrate sufficient financial means to support their stay in Italy. The required amount is now:

  • €10,179.85 annually (approx. PKR 3.2 million)

This marks a significant increase from the previously referenced requirement of around €6,000, making financial preparation more demanding for applicants.

For Pakistani students, this change means submitting stronger bank statements and financial documentation when applying for an Italy study visa.

Funds Must Be Legal, Traceable, and Verifiable

Italian authorities have emphasized strict scrutiny of financial documents. According to the official circular:

  • Funds must come from lawful and traceable sources
  • Money should preferably be in the student’s personal bank account
  • Alternatively, funds can be provided by family members up to the fourth degree

Embassies may examine:

  • Bank transaction history
  • Income records
  • Overall financial condition of the sponsor

This means applicants must avoid temporary or unexplained deposits, as authorities may reject applications lacking financial transparency.

Scholarship Applicants Must Show Confirmed Funding

Students relying on scholarships must provide official confirmation of award. Simply applying for or being eligible for a scholarship will not be accepted as financial proof.

Recognized funding sources may include:

  • Italian universities
  • Government institutions
  • Verified international organizations

However, only confirmed and documented financial support will be considered valid during visa processing.

Italian Embassy Holds Final Visa Authority

Despite securing admission or completing pre-enrollment via Universitaly Portal, students are not guaranteed a visa.

The final decision lies with the Italian embassy or consulate, which may assess:

  • Migration risk
  • Socioeconomic background
  • Academic history
  • Relevance of chosen study program

This highlights the importance of submitting a complete and credible application.

What Pakistani Students Should Do Now

Pakistani students planning to study in Italy should:

  • Prepare bank statements meeting the €10,179.85 requirement
  • Ensure funds are consistent with declared income sources
  • Maintain proper financial records and documentation
  • Regularly check updates from the Italian Embassy in Islamabad and Universitaly portal

Early preparation and transparency will be crucial to improve visa approval chances under the new rules.
