ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The new Islamabad school bag policy has officially introduced strict limits on the weight students can carry in private schools across the capital.

Authorities said the latest school bag weight rules are aimed at reducing pressure on children and improving student health in educational institutions.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority chaired by acting chairperson Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah.

Officials directed all private schools Islamabad to ensure that students’ bags do not exceed 10 percent of their body weight.

According to authorities, the new Islamabad school bag policy will help reduce physical strain caused by carrying excessive books and materials every day.

Schools have also been instructed to reduce unnecessary books, improve class timetables, and provide lockers where possible.

The updated school bag weight rules include separate limits for different age groups and classes.

Preschool students will now be allowed to carry bags weighing no more than 1.5kg.

For grades 1 and 2, the allowed weight ranges between 1.5kg and 2.5kg, while grades 3 to 5 can carry bags between 2.5kg and 4.5kg.

Students in grades 6 to 8 will have a maximum limit of 6kg, while grades 9 to 12 can carry bags weighing between 6kg and 8kg.

Authorities warned that private schools Islamabad must strictly follow these instructions to avoid future action.

Officials believe the move toward lighter school bags Pakistan has become necessary due to increasing health concerns among schoolchildren.

Education experts say lighter school bags Pakistan could help improve posture, reduce back pain, and make learning more comfortable for students.

Parents also welcomed the Islamabad school bag policy, saying children often struggle with heavy books and overloaded bags.
