The Punjab government has introduced a stricter traffic enforcement system across the province by revising fines and launching a penalty point deduction mechanism under amended motor vehicle regulations published in the Punjab Gazette on May 7, 2026.

Under the updated rules, motorists violating traffic laws will face heavier fines along with penalty points that could impact their driving records.

According to the revised notification, overspeeding penalties now range from PKR 2,000 for motorcycles and three-wheelers to PKR 10,000 for heavy transport vehicles. In addition, four penalty points will be deducted for the offence.

Authorities have also increased penalties for reckless and negligent driving, with fines reaching up to PKR 10,000 alongside four penalty points.

Driving without a valid licence will now result in fines ranging between PKR 2,000 and PKR 5,000 depending on the vehicle category. Vehicles operating without fitness certificates may also face fines of up to PKR 5,000.

The revised enforcement list further includes violations such as signal breaking, wrong-way driving, illegal parking, overloading, excessive smoke emissions, route permit violations and using mobile phones while driving.

Officials have also imposed stricter action against motorcyclists riding without helmets and carrying more than two passengers on a motorcycle.

Under the new regulations, fake number plates can lead to fines of up to PKR 5,000.

The Punjab government says the tougher penalties are aimed at improving road safety, reducing accidents and promoting responsible driving behavior across the province as traffic congestion and violations continue to rise in major cities.
