US President Donald Trump has said that Chinese President Xi Jinping offered to help ease tensions surrounding Iran and ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open for global trade and oil shipments.

Speaking during a television interview while visiting China, Trump said Xi Jinping expressed willingness to assist if China could play a role in resolving issues involving Iran.

According to Trump, the Chinese president noted that China purchases large quantities of oil from Iran and wants shipping routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, to remain open and stable.

Trump said Xi also hopes to see an agreement reached between Iran and the United States to avoid further regional tensions. The US president added that China would not provide military equipment to Iran.

The remarks came during Trump’s high-profile visit to Beijing, where both leaders discussed trade, economic cooperation and global security issues.

Earlier, during a dinner held in Trump’s honor at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi Jinping once again offered partnership and cooperation to the United States.

The Chinese president stressed that mutual respect should remain the foundation of ties between the world’s two largest economies.

Xi said China and the United States are “two great nations” and should act as partners rather than rivals. He also remarked that Trump’s slogan of “making America great again” could align with China’s own development goals.

Trump further revealed that China had agreed to order 200 Boeing aircraft, signaling continued economic cooperation despite ongoing geopolitical challenges between the two countries.
