The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has officially announced the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2026 schedule for law graduates seeking enrollment as advocates. Online registration begins on March 3, 2026, while the test is scheduled for April 5, 2026.
The Law-GAT, conducted by HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC), is mandatory for all law graduates who wish to enroll with the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). Eligible candidates include those holding a bachelor’s degree in law or an equivalent qualification from HEC-recognized local or foreign universities.

The test will feature multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with a minimum passing score of 50 out of 100 marks. Detailed syllabus, curriculum, and test patterns are available for download on the official HEC website. Law-GAT tests are conducted quarterly in major cities across Pakistan, and candidates can choose their preferred test centers. However, ETC reserves the right to reassign centers if fewer than 250 candidates register at a location.
Individuals who have already qualified the Law-GAT, exhausted all seven attempts, or are still enrolled in a law degree program are not eligible to apply. HEC clarified that passing the Law-GAT is necessary but not sufficient for enrollment; candidates must also meet all Pakistan Bar Council requirements to practice law.
For further information, candidates can visit the official HEC website or contact the ETC helplines.
