British-Pakistani man booked under ATA for assaulting Islamabad police appears in court

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The British-born Pakistani man, who was arrested and booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for assaulting traffic police officers in Islamabad’s I-8 Markaz area, was presented before the court on Monday.

A viral video on social media showed the man attacking traffic personnel, causing chaos in the busy commercial zone and spreading panic among the public. The situation disrupted traffic flow and alarmed nearby shopkeepers and pedestrians.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Aaqib, became violent after officers stopped his car for reckless driving and drifting. When confronted, he reportedly lost control, assaulted officers, and hurled verbal abuse.

An FIR registered at the I-9 Police Station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Gul Hassan includes sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act and other related laws. The report states that Aaqib endangered public lives through dangerous driving and even tried to run over officers.

Police added that during the chase, the suspect allegedly opened fire, damaged a police wireless set, and tore a uniform. He was later arrested with his vehicle and shifted to the police station for further investigation.
