Punjab govt announces new hiring process for doctors and specialists
The Punjab Government has approved a new recruitment system for doctors and medical specialists who will serve at healthcare facilities across the province. The new policy aims to make the hiring process more transparent, efficient and based entirely on merit.
Under the approved mechanism, special selection committees will supervise the recruitment process for doctors and specialists at newly established healthcare centres. All BS-17 and above positions will be filled through these committees on the basis of merit.
Merit-based appointments
Officials said the new recruitment framework has been designed to select qualified healthcare professionals through a fair and transparent process. The government has also completed the procedure for hiring doctors and specialists on a contract basis for new health centres.
Appointments will only be made after the high-level selection committees recommend suitable candidates. This step is expected to strengthen confidence in the recruitment process and improve the quality of medical staff.
Senior officials to supervise the hiring process
Under the new policy, the Executive Director, Principal or Head of the concerned institution will act as the convener of the selection committee. Commissioners, senior professors and experienced government officials will also be part of the committees to ensure impartial and merit-based recruitment.
The Punjab Government’s Regulation Wing has formally approved the proposal submitted by the Health Department. The Finance Department has also confirmed that the required funding for these appointments will be arranged through the department’s internal budget resources.
