Dosanjh shared the teaser in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account. "Full movie, no cuts," he wrote in his post adding the hashtag #ChallengeTheDarkness. The film is directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The film will hit theatres on February 7.
In the beginning of the teaser, Arjun Rampal, a character in the film, asked a poignant question: "Look at the history of Punjab, sir. From the dispute over its rivers to Operation Bluestar, Indira Gandhi s assassination, and the 1984 riots, from President’s rule to the assassination of the chief minister—why is Punjab still suffering?"
Punjab 95 is about the story of Sikh rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who bravely uncovered more than 25,000 cases of illegal killings, disappearances, and clandestine cremations carried out by the Punjab Police. The film follows his relentless fight for justice, which ultimately leads to his abduction, torture, and murder, crimes for which six police officers were later convicted.
Dosanjh takes centre stage as Khalra, investigating the disappearance of Sukhdev Singh. The teaser captures Khalra s unrelenting pursuit of truth as he gathers evidence, risking his own safety to uncover the grim reality behind Sukhdev s case.
According to an Indian news agency, the film has faced barricades as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) allegedly proposed 120 cuts because of its sensitive subject matter.
It merits mention that despite the approval of Khalra s family in 2022, the film has been delayed for years.
