LAHORE (Web Desk): Universities across Lahore have imposed a ban on drama and film shootings following backlash over the popular drama ‘Main Manto Nahi Hoon.’

Actor Atiqa Odho confirmed the ban, revealing that she learned about it during her recent visit to Lahore. Speaking on a private TV channel program, while reviewing the latest episode of the drama.

she explained that university administrations were alarmed by the negative reaction and have decided to restrict all on-campus filming. The video of her comments has since been removed from YouTube.

According to Odho, the educational institution where parts of the drama were filmed faced backlash for allowing scenes that many deemed disrespectful to teachers and academic settings.

As a preventive measure, universities and schools will now require complete script approval before granting filming permissions in the future.

The decision has received widespread public support, with social media users calling it a “dignified step” to protect the integrity of educational institutions. Many expressed the view that “schools are meant for education, not entertainment.”

Critics have slammed the drama for romanticizing a teacher’s encouragement to marry her student, calling it both unrealistic and ethically questionable. While a few defended the depiction as a reflection of real-life complexities, the majority emphasized that such sensitive topics must be handled with responsibility and respect.

Overall, the consensus among viewers and commentators is clear: creative freedom should come with accountability, especially when storytelling intersects with real-life institutions and moral values.
