Momina Iqbal sends legal notice to religious scholar over alleged defamatory claims
Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has served a legal notice to prominent religious scholar Nasir Madni over alleged defamatory remarks and false accusations made against her on social media.
The notice, sent through her lawyer Advocate Adnan Ahsan Khan, claims that the statements made by Nasir Madni have damaged the actress's reputation, amounted to character assassination and subjected her to online harassment.
According to the legal notice, the actress has demanded the immediate removal of all social media posts and content containing what her legal team describes as false, fabricated and defamatory allegations.
The notice also calls on Nasir Madni to withdraw his statements and issue an unconditional public apology within the specified timeframe.
Momina Iqbal has strongly denied claims circulating online that she received financial support, gifts, mobile phones or educational assistance from any individual. Her legal team has described these allegations as baseless, malicious and contrary to the facts.
The notice further states that such statements may constitute violations of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, the Defamation Ordinance 2002 and relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Her legal representatives warned that if the demands outlined in the notice are not met within the given period, criminal proceedings and further legal action may be initiated.
Neither Nasir Madni nor his representatives have publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
The case has sparked debate on social media regarding online accountability, misinformation and the legal consequences of making unverified claims against public figures.
