The clip was originally from IIFA awards where Ranveer Singh was enthusiastically recreating a sequence inspired by Rishab Shetty’s performance in Kantara.
Some of the fans found the moment entertaining while some of them criticised him for going “over the top” and allegedly disrespecting the cultural and spiritual elements portrayed in the film.
In response to the backlash, Ranveer Singh clarified that he meant no disrespect and was only expressing admiration for the movie’s powerful storytelling and unique style.
He stated that he has always appreciated regional cinema and considers Kantara one of the most impactful films in recent years.
He further mentioned that his mimicry was done in a light-hearted manner and should not be taken as mockery. “I have deep respect for the art and for the people who created such a brilliant film,” he reportedly said.
