LAHORE (Web Desk): Electric vehicle prices are set to rise as higher lithium battery costs force manufacturers to increase rates in two phases from February.

Prices of lithium battery–based electric vehicles are being increased after a sharp rise in raw material costs. Manufacturers say the surge has directly raised the cost of lithium batteries used in electric vehicles.

According to the price notice, the cost of a 72V 30Ah lithium iron phosphate battery has increased by Rs27,000. Meanwhile, the price of a 72V 150Ah lithium iron phosphate battery has jumped by Rs130,000.

Due to this increase, electric vehicle prices will be revised in two stages. For Metro e-vehicles, prices will rise by Rs14,000 from February 1, 2026, followed by an additional Rs13,000 from March 1, 2026, taking the total increase to Rs27,000.

Tez Raftar electric rickshaws will see a sharper hike. Prices will go up by Rs70,000 from February 1, 2026, and another Rs60,000 from March 1, 2026. This will bring the total increase to Rs130,000.

Manufacturers said the revision is unavoidable due to rising global raw material prices. They added that the new rates are aimed at balancing production costs while continuing the supply of electric vehicles in the market.
