LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has announced a cash reward of Rs100,000 for the motorists who convert their petrol-powered motorcycle into an electric one.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb made the announcement during a press conference, saying that cleaning Punjab’s environment is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s broader vision. As part of this mission, a province-wide “Plant for Pakistan” campaign has been launched to tackle environmental pollution.

She revealed that the Horticulture Authority has begun a tree plantation drive aimed at increasing Punjab’s green cover. The province s first smog guns will also be introduced to the media tomorrow. Under the campaign, the target is to plant 500,000 trees across Punjab.

Taking a jab at past administrations, the minister said, “Unlike the previous government’s empty slogans about a billion tree tsunami, we are tracking and mapping each tree using modern Australian technology, which will be fully installed this year.”

She further shared that a technology-based fire control force will be established in Punjab, with Bank of Punjab monitoring the entire project. Forest land that was illegally occupied has been reclaimed, and the Chief Minister is determined not only to expand forest cover but also to protect it.

Maryam Aurangzeb added that Lahore residents can receive a free plant at home by calling 1399—a personal gift from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Just call, and your plant will be delivered to your doorstep.

She also revealed that 300,000 trees will be planted along the Ring Road, and efforts to combat smog—which has plagued Lahore for over a decade—are already showing results. Seven air quality monitors have been installed under the Punjab Air Quality System.

Urging citizens to take action, she said it is every Lahori’s duty to plant more trees, as this will improve the air quality index and reduce smog-related health issues.

In a final push toward green transformation, the minister announced that those who switch their bike lights to LED will receive carbon green credits. And the biggest incentive? Petrol bike users who convert to electric will get a Rs100,000 cash prize from the Punjab government.

This initiative shows a major shift in Punjab’s environmental policy—from reactive to proactive. With cash rewards, tree mapping technology, and citizen engagement, the government aims to position itself as a regional leader in green innovation. If implemented effectively, these measures could bring real change to Punjab’s climate future while setting a model for other provinces to follow.
