According to details, the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Javaid Hanif. Addressing the meeting, Shaista Pervaiz said that small cars have become expensive and big cars have become cheaper in the country.

To which the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce replied that this was not the case. Officials of the Ministry of Commerce said that currently the duty on small vehicles up to 850 cc is 55 percent, 1300 cc is 65 percent, and 1800 cc is 75 percent.
Officials said that the regulatory duty on small vehicles has been reduced from 15 percent to 10 percent, while the regulatory duty on big vehicles is 200 percent, which has been reduced by 90 percent under the tariff policy. Even after this, a regulatory duty of 50 percent is imposed on large vehicles.
He said that cars older than three years cannot be imported into the country, but SUVs and other vehicles up to five years old can be imported.
Javaid Hanif said that the reality is that small cars have become expensive and big cars have become cheaper. The government should take steps to reduce the price of small cars in the new auto policy.
