LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has launched an initiative of Clean Drinking Water Punjab to ensure safe water access for millions of residents.

Under the project’s first phase, modern water filtration and treatment plants will be installed across 16 districts of Punjab. This phase will be completed by June 30, 2026, and it is expected to benefit nearly 29 million people throughout the province.

Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal chaired a key meeting to review the project’s progress. During the session, Punjab Saaf Pani Authority CEO Naveed Ahmad briefed officials on the strategy and implementation plan designed to deliver clean drinking water efficiently.

According to the Punjab Housing and Urban Development Department, special attention will be given to regions with arsenic contamination and polluted underground water sources. Advanced filtration plants will be deployed to eliminate harmful substances.

Moreover, surface water treatment facilities will be established at Dharabi, Mairwal, and Phalina dams. These facilities aim to provide a consistent and safe water supply to nearby communities, significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases.
