(Web Desk): Riffat Alvi, the mother of slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, has passed away, leaving behind a family still struggling for justice.

Her death comes nearly three years after her son was shot dead in Kenya under mysterious circumstances.

Arshad Sharif, a well-known journalist and recipient of the Pride of Performance award in 2023 by then-President Arif Alvi, was killed on October 24, 2022. His death sparked outrage across Pakistan, with politicians, journalists, and media organizations demanding a thorough probe.

Despite repeated calls, the investigation has made little progress. Both the Supreme Court and the media have criticized the authorities for failing to bring clarity or accountability to the case.

Confirming the heartbreaking news, Arshad’s widow, journalist Javeria Siddique, posted on X, saying, “Arshad Sharif’s mother, who was demanding justice for her son, has passed away.”

In a 2023 article, Siddique urged authorities to conduct an “independent, impartial, and immediate investigation” into her husband’s killing, expressing frustration that “justice only seems to become more and more elusive.”

Her death symbolizes not only a family’s unending grief but also a broader failure of justice. With her gone, many fear the call for accountability may fade further unless urgent action is taken.
