Caprio publicly announced his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in December 2024. Throughout his treatment journey, he continued to update his supporters. Caprio shared a video from his hospital bed, expressing gratitude for the prayers and support he had received just a day before his passing.
Caprio s legacy extends beyond the courtroom. Caprio was born in Providence, Rhode Island. For nearly four decades, he served as a municipal judge and retired in 2023. He was known for his integrity, fairness, and unwavering commitment to justice throughout his career.
Caprio s memory was honoured by Governor Dan McKee of Rhode Island by ordering flags to fly at half-mast, recognizing him as a "Rhode Island treasure" whose legacy of empathy and kindness will continue to inspire.
