Why Iran’s Supreme Leader orders faster legal action against US, Israel
Mojtaba Khamenei directed the judiciary to speed up legal proceedings at both the national and international levels.
According to Iranian media, Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said the US and Israeli attacks on Iran since last year caused serious damage to civilians, state facilities and the country’s national interests. He said effective legal measures should be taken to restore the rights of those affected.
Khamenei said the attacks carried out in June 2025 and February 2026 resulted in deaths, injuries and financial losses. He added that these incidents could lead to not just hundreds but thousands of legal cases.
The Iranian leader referred to the deaths of children in Minab and Lamerd. He also cited attacks on medical centres, public service facilities and civilian areas, calling them serious war crimes.
Khamenei said statements made by some US and Israeli leaders amounted to an admission of criminal responsibility. He added that public expressions of pride over the attacks further strengthened Iran’s legal position.

He instructed the judiciary to fully perform its responsibilities in protecting public rights and ensuring justice. He also called for stronger enforcement of laws, protection of legal freedoms, action against corruption and safeguarding of national interests.
Khamenei said the judiciary’s role goes beyond handling individual cases and includes protecting the rights of the nation as a whole. He added that carrying out these duties effectively would strengthen public confidence in the judicial system.
He further said legal action against the United States and Israel is necessary not only to restore the rights of victims but also to help prevent similar attacks in the future. According to him, pursuing legal channels is an important part of protecting the country’s interests.
Iran is increasing its focus on legal action alongside its political response to the attacks. The effectiveness of these efforts will depend on how international legal and diplomatic processes develop in the coming months.
