US strikes Iran for second day as explosions rock southern cities
Explosions were reported in several parts of southern Iran after the United States launched military strikes for a second straight day, further raising tensions between the two countries and increasing concerns about regional stability.
According to Iranian media reports, multiple locations in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas were targeted, while explosions were also heard near Bushehr, Konarak and Chabahar. Residents in several areas reported hearing loud blasts overnight as air defense systems were activated.
Reports said power was temporarily disrupted in Chabahar following the attacks but was restored a few hours later. Explosions were also reported on Abu Musa Island and near the village of Tahroui in Sirik, where additional blasts were heard.
Iranian media claimed that the attacks targeted maritime infrastructure, including two port piers and a marine traffic control tower in Chabahar. Authorities also reported damage to facilities near Iranshahr Airport and a meteorological station.
Local officials said a firefighter was killed during one of the attacks near Iranshahr, while several buildings suffered damage. However, reports indicated that Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility was not affected by the strikes.
Meanwhile, Iranian sources alleged that US forces also targeted a railway bridge in the northeastern province of Golestan. Several missiles were reportedly fired at the structure, with some impacting railway tracks.
Iran’s military said missile defense systems were placed on high alert following the attacks. The full extent of the damage remains unclear.
The escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran has sparked growing concerns across the Middle East, with analysts warning that further military action could increase instability and affect regional security and energy markets.
