(Web Desk): The US Embassy in Riyadh was hit by an Iranian drone strike, causing explosions, fire, and smoke in the diplomatic quarter, officials confirmed.

The US Embassy in Riyadh was struck in a reported Iranian drone attack that triggered explosions and a fire in Saudi Arabia’s heavily secured diplomatic quarter.

According to officials, two drones targeted the embassy compound, causing what authorities described as “limited fire and minor material damage.” Thick black smoke was seen rising above the area, alarming residents and foreign diplomatic missions nearby.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as sirens echoed through the normally restricted zone housing embassies and diplomatic residences.

Saudi Military Confirms Drone Attack

United States Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed that two drone strikes hit its Riyadh facility. Saudi military officials stated that emergency teams responded immediately to contain the blaze and secure the perimeter.

Although the structural damage was termed minor, the psychological and geopolitical impact of the strike has raised serious international concerns.

The US mission issued a shelter-in-place order for its facilities in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dhahran. Personnel were advised to avoid non-essential travel, particularly near military installations.

Rising Iran–US–Israel Tensions

The attack comes amid escalating tensions between Iran, United States, and Israel.

Iran has intensified missile and drone operations in response to recent US and Israeli airstrikes. Analysts suggest that expanding drone strikes into the Gulf region signals a potentially dangerous phase of regional confrontation.

Security experts warn that further escalation could threaten global security stability and disrupt energy markets, particularly in the strategically vital Persian Gulf corridor.

Smoke, Explosions, and International Reaction

Videos circulating online showed dark smoke clouds hovering over Riyadh’s diplomatic district, prompting swift global attention.

Despite the dramatic visuals, the US Embassy reassured the public via X (formerly Twitter) that the incident caused only minor material damage and no reported casualties.

However, geopolitical analysts caution that direct attacks on diplomatic missions could mark a serious turning point in the ongoing crisis.

Further investigations are underway as Saudi and US authorities assess the full scope of the drone strike.
