(Web Desk): US-backed ceasefire framework between Israel and Lebanon sparks fresh hopes for stability and long-term peace in the Middle East.

The United States has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed on a framework for implementing a ceasefire, raising hopes for reduced tensions and a renewed push for peace in the Middle East.

According to a joint statement issued by the US State Department, the agreement was reached during talks held in Washington between representatives of the two countries. The move aims to end ongoing border clashes and address security concerns that have fueled instability in the region.

The statement said several key conditions have been agreed upon as part of the ceasefire plan. These include a complete halt to hostilities by Hezbollah and the withdrawal of its fighters from the southern Litani sector.

Under the proposed security framework, designated pilot zones will be established where only the Lebanese Armed Forces will have full authority. Non-state armed groups will not be allowed to operate within these areas, a measure aimed at strengthening security and preventing future confrontations.

US officials said the framework is designed to safeguard the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of both Lebanon and Israel. The plan also prioritizes efforts to prevent the reorganization of armed groups and reinforce state authority.

Washington reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces, helping them enhance their defense capabilities and maintain effective control over national territory.

The statement added that a new round of political and security talks is expected to begin during the week starting June 22. The United States will continue to act as a mediator and facilitator in an effort to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement between the two sides.
