Russia has strongly condemned the reported US strike on Iran's Darkhovin nuclear project, describing the attack on a nuclear facility as a violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.

In an official statement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova expressed serious concern over the incident and urged the international community to respond responsibly to the growing tensions in the Middle East.

Moscow calls for independent IAEA investigation

Zakharova said the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should conduct an impartial and independent assessment of the reported attack to determine the facts and evaluate its impact.

She stressed that nuclear facilities should never be treated as military targets, warning that attacks on such sites could have serious consequences for regional and global security.

Warning against escalating tensions

The Russian Foreign Ministry also warned against using Iran's peaceful nuclear program as a justification for military action. Zakharova said such an approach could increase instability, fuel further violence, and create long-term security risks across the Middle East and beyond.

She urged all parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through diplomacy rather than military confrontation.

Peaceful nuclear energy is a legal right

Zakharova reaffirmed that Iran, like all non-nuclear-weapon states, has the right to develop and use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under international agreements.

She added that peaceful nuclear programs should not be restricted through external pressure or military force, emphasizing the importance of respecting international legal frameworks.
