(Web Desk): US-Iran talks spark claim of $6 billion release for Tehran as both sides meet in Islamabad While the situation remains unclear with conflicting statements.

Reports say the United States has agreed to release $6 billion in Iranian funds frozen in Qatar and other banks. A senior Iranian official claimed this development as talks between Tehran and Washington began.

However, a US official strongly rejected this claim. The official said no such agreement has been reached so far.

According to Iranian sources, Tehran had demanded the release of its blocked funds through messages sent to Washington. They believe their request has been accepted during ongoing discussions.

The issue is also connected to talks about safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. This remains one of the key topics being discussed in the negotiations.

Another Iranian source said the total amount involved is about $6 billion held in Qatari accounts. Qatar has not yet given any official statement on this matter.

The funds originally came from Iranian oil revenues. These were frozen in 2018 after the United States reimposed sanctions and blocked money held in South Korean banks.

Later in September 2023, the funds were moved to Qatar during a prisoner swap deal. This deal helped secure the release of five US citizens and five Iranians.

After the Gaza conflict began on October 7, 2023, the US again restricted access to these funds. At that time, Washington said Iran would not be allowed to use the money.

So far, there is no official confirmation from either side about the latest claim. The talks in Islamabad are continuing as both countries try to move forward.

The situation is still unclear and full of mixed signals. Iran is hopeful while the US is denying any deal. Talks are ongoing and may bring more clarity soon. The outcome could impact regional stability.
