(Web Desk): Iran claimed it shot down a US aircraft near Bushehr, sparking mass rallies in Tehran, while Washington denied the incident and announced fresh sanctions on Tehran.

Iran has claimed that it shot down an American aircraft near the southern city of Bushehr, triggering large public rallies in support of the Iranian military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to Iranian media reports, thousands of people gathered at Tehran’s famous Azadi Square soon after the claim surfaced. Protesters chanted slogans in favour of Iran’s armed forces and praised the country’s leadership for what they called a strong response against the United States.

Demonstrators also expressed support for Iran’s defence policies and warned against foreign pressure on Tehran. Similar scenes of celebration were reported in several other Iranian cities, while security forces across the country were placed on high alert.

However, the US military quickly rejected Iran’s claim. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said no American aircraft had been destroyed near Bushehr and confirmed that all US air assets in the region remained safe.

The latest tensions come amid already strained relations between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues.

Meanwhile, the United States announced fresh sanctions targeting Iran. US Treasury officials confirmed new restrictions on Iran’s Strait of Hormuz authority and blacklisted eight vessels allegedly involved in transporting Iranian crude oil to global markets.

Reports also said that more than 15 commercial companies based in Hong Kong and Dubai were added to the sanctions list.

The US Treasury Secretary stated that sanctions relief would not be possible unless the Strait of Hormuz remains open and Iran places its enriched uranium under international supervision.
