Syria’s caretaker Finance Minister Mohammed Abazeed announced that the government will hike the salaries of public sector workers by 400% next month. Before implementing this decision, a restructuring of the government administrative framework will be completed to ensure both functionality and accountability within the government.
According to the government’s announcement, the Syrian government will have to spend an additional 1.65 trillion Syrian pounds in this regard, which is equivalent to $127 million. These additional expenses will be covered by the government’s current resources as well as aid received at the regional level.
The interim government expects that the frozen funds in various foreign banks will also be released. Finance Minister Mohammed Abazeed stated that this is an attempt to address the current economic hardship in the country.
