
The scholarship, backed by the Icelandic Ministry of Culture, Innovation, and Higher Education, invites talented learners from around the world to study in one of Europe’s most peaceful nations.
The program aims to promote Icelandic culture and language while providing students with an immersive academic and cultural experience in the Nordic region. It is administered by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies, a renowned center dedicated to preserving Iceland’s linguistic heritage.
This fully funded scholarship covers 100% of tuition and registration fees at the University of Iceland. Recipients will also receive a monthly stipend to manage living expenses from September to April, along with accommodation at the Gamli Garður Student Dormitory. Students will have complete access to university libraries, study facilities, and the Árni Magnússon Institute. The award can be renewed for up to three years based on academic performance.

To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of university-level studies in humanities or related subjects. They must also show basic knowledge of Icelandic — equivalent to the Icelandic Online 1 and 2 courses, which are freely available online. While IELTS is not required, students must prove English proficiency, as English is used as a secondary language of instruction. The deadline to apply is 1 December 2025.
