The Kremlin said Russia will continue to stay in contact with regional and international partners to help stabilize the situation.
Both leaders also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to improving relations between their countries. The phone call came shortly after high-level negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad ended without a final agreement.
These talks were part of wider diplomatic efforts to stop the ongoing conflict that began after a US-Israeli military offensive on Iran on February 28. Since the start of the conflict, more than 3,300 people have reportedly lost their lives.
Iran has also limited the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s most important routes for global oil and gas shipments. This restriction has raised concerns in international markets and among global powers about the stability of energy supplies.
Although a fragile two-week ceasefire has recently been announced, many major disagreements between the sides still remain unresolved. Diplomats believe further negotiations will be needed to avoid another escalation in the region.
