(Web Desk): A new US plan to acquire Greenland has sparked alarm across Europe as reports suggest financial incentives for residents amid growing security concerns.

A controversial US plan to acquire Greenland has resurfaced, triggering strong reactions from European nations and raising concerns within NATO.

According to international media reports, including Fox News, former US President Donald Trump is once again weighing the option of bringing Greenland under US control. The plan reportedly includes offering direct payments ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 to Greenland’s population of around 57,000 people.

US officials claim the financial incentives are aimed at persuading Greenlanders to separate from Denmark and join the United States. Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland is vital not for minerals alone, but for US national security and defense interests.

Greenland holds immense strategic importance due to its location in the Arctic and its vast reserves of rare earth minerals, uranium, oil, gas, lithium, graphite, and copper; resources critical for modern technology, electric vehicles, drones, and defense systems.

The US also sees Greenland as strategically significant amid growing Russian and Chinese naval activity in the region. However, European countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the UK have strongly rejected the idea.

Denmark has warned that any attempt to seize Greenland would threaten the unity of NATO. Trump had floated a, similar proposal during his first presidential term, but the idea has regained momentum following recent US military actions abroad.
