The UK student visa ban marks a major shift in Britain’s immigration policy as the government moves to suspend study visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan. The decision comes amid a sharp rise in asylum applications from individuals entering the country through legal migration routes.
According to the UK Home Office, the new visa restrictions aim to prevent the misuse of the student visa system by applicants who later file asylum claims. Officials revealed that asylum requests from students belonging to the four countries increased more than fivefold between 2021 and 2025.
The government confirmed that the student visa suspension will officially take effect on March 26. In addition to the study visa ban, work visas for Afghan nationals will also be discontinued as part of broader immigration control measures.

Authorities indicated that once stability is restored, limited and secure legal migration pathways may be introduced. However, no detailed framework or exemptions have yet been disclosed.
