(Web Desk): US blocks Iran-bound tanker as naval tensions rise, calling it part of a wider blockade operation.

The United States military has stopped another vessel heading toward an Iranian port, escalating tensions in the already fragile Gulf region. The move comes as part of what US Central Command (CENTCOM) described as an ongoing enforcement action under its maritime security operations.

In a statement shared with images of two ships, CENTCOM said the interception was linked to a broader blockade effort aimed at restricting certain shipments. However, the US did not provide detailed information about the cargo or the exact circumstances of the interception.

According to maritime tracking service MarineTraffic, the vessel identified as MT Stream is an Iranian-flagged oil tanker. This development follows earlier reports of US actions targeting Iranian tankers at sea, which have drawn strong reactions from Tehran.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the US measures, accusing Washington of “maritime piracy” and attempting to justify such actions under international law. The ministry’s spokesperson said these steps violate global maritime norms and escalate regional instability.

Analysts warn that continued confrontations in key shipping lanes could disrupt global oil supply routes, particularly around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The situation remains tense as both sides exchange accusations, raising concerns about further escalation.

Observers say any prolonged standoff could impact energy markets and shipping security, adding pressure to an already volatile geopolitical landscape.
