US and Iran ‘very close’ to deal, says JD Vance
US Vice President JD Vance has said that the United States and Iran are moving very close to a possible agreement, although it remains unclear when President Donald Trump could formally approve or sign any understanding between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters, Vance said Iran appears interested in reaching an agreement with Washington, but stressed that no final deal has been completed yet. He added that the United States remains in a strong position to push back Iran’s nuclear programme if necessary.
According to Vance, both sides are still discussing several important points and negotiations are continuing. He expressed hope that talks would move forward positively in the coming days.
The US vice president also clarified that President Trump is not yet ready to sign any agreement, saying the time will come when the president can officially confirm or endorse a deal.
The remarks come at a time of rising tensions between Tehran and Washington following Iran’s claim that it shot down an American aircraft near Bushehr.
The reported incident sparked large rallies in Tehran, where thousands gathered at Azadi Square in support of Iran’s military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Protesters praised the country’s leadership and chanted slogans against the United States.
However, the US military denied the claim. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said no American aircraft had been destroyed and confirmed that all US air assets in the region remained safe.
