President Donald Trump’s Air Force One was forced to return to Washington shortly after takeoff en route to Switzerland due to a technical problem, White House officials confirmed. The incident occurred just after the flight departed, prompting the crew to report a minor electrical issue. As a precaution, the decision was made to turn the plane back to Joint Base Andrews.
A White House spokesperson clarified that there was no emergency, and the safety of the President and passengers was the top priority. “We detected a minor electrical fault shortly after departure. This is purely precautionary, and the plane returned safely,” the spokesperson said.
Following the return, President Trump boarded a replacement aircraft and is expected to continue his journey to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum. Before departure, Trump addressed journalists, saying, “It’s going to be an interesting trip. I don’t know exactly what will happen, but your representation is being done in a full and strong way.”

Trump’s visit to Davos comes amid a busy schedule, where he is expected to focus on reducing living costs as a central theme in his speeches. During a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, the President highlighted his administration’s achievements, criticized the United Nations, and reiterated his controversial stance that the U.S. should have control over Greenland.
White House officials emphasized that the incident was minor, with no threat to safety, and the President’s agenda in Davos will continue as planned. The replacement aircraft ensured that Trump’s international engagements and participation at the World Economic Forum remain on schedule.
