According to state media, all African nations except Eswatini will benefit from the zero-tariff policy. Eswatini is excluded because it maintains diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has repeatedly said it does not rule out the use of force to take control of the island.
The report also said China will continue to push for joint economic partnership agreements with African nations. It plans to further expand market access for African exports through improved systems such as the “green channel”.
China is already Africa’s largest trading partner and plays a major role in funding infrastructure projects across the continent under its “Belt and Road initiative”.

In recent years, many African countries have been strengthening ties with China and other partners, especially after US President Donald Trump imposed high tariffs globally last year.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said the zero-tariff decision “will undoubtedly provide new opportunities for African development”. He announced the implementation date as African leaders gathered in Ethiopia for the annual African Union summit.
