WhatsApp update removes WhatsApp block detection trick
The latest WhatsApp update fixes a loophole in WhatsApp encryption verification that unintentionally revealed clues about blocking. The change also strengthens WhatsApp privacy, making WhatsApp block detection much more difficult.
The WhatsApp update was introduced through a server-side change, meaning users do not need to install a new version of the app. The fix is now available for Android and iPhone users.
How the old method worked
Previously, users could open a contact’s profile, tap the Encryption option, and wait for WhatsApp encryption verification to complete automatically.
If the other person had blocked them, the verification often failed and asked users to compare the security code manually.
Although WhatsApp never officially confirmed the trick, many users believed it was a reliable form of WhatsApp block detection. This made it one of the most talked-about WhatsApp blocked checks online.
What has changed now?
Following the latest WhatsApp update, WhatsApp encryption verification now completes successfully even if the other person has blocked the user.
The app no longer displays an error or requests manual verification because of a block. As a result, the old WhatsApp block detection method no longer works.
Server-side fix improves WhatsApp privacy
The fix was introduced through a server-side update instead of an app update.
Users on Android and iOS will receive the change automatically, regardless of the version installed. The update also improves WhatsApp privacy by ensuring blocking information cannot be guessed through the verification process.

Encryption remains fully secure
WhatsApp confirmed that the earlier issue never affected end-to-end encryption.
Messages remained protected at all times. The issue only involved the automatic verification process, and WhatsApp encryption verification now works correctly for every conversation without revealing blocking status.
Can you still tell if someone blocked you?
Users can still look for common signs of being WhatsApp blocked, such as messages staying on one grey check mark, calls not connecting, or a missing profile photo.
However, WhatsApp says none of these signs can confirm a block on their own. Privacy settings, network issues, or changing phones can produce similar results.
This means WhatsApp block detection is now less reliable than before, while WhatsApp privacy has become stronger.
