Pakistan sets record in YouTube viewership with 560 million daily views
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez ur Rehman shared these figures during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology. He also revealed the growing use of TikTok and WhatsApp across the country.
Pakistan leads in YouTube video viewership
According to the PTA chairman, around 96 million people in Pakistan use YouTube. The platform receives approximately 560 million video views daily, making Pakistan the leading country in global YouTube viewership, according to his briefing.
The figures show how strongly online video content has become part of daily life in Pakistan. Millions of people use the platform for entertainment, information and other digital activities.
TikTok and WhatsApp usage reaches millions
The PTA chairman said TikTok has around 100 million user accounts in Pakistan. Approximately 150 million people watch videos on the platform.
WhatsApp also has a large user base, with around 100 million accounts in the country. Pakistanis reportedly make nearly one billion calls and send around 12 billion messages through WhatsApp every day.
These figures highlight the growing role of social media and messaging applications in communication. They also show why internet services are facing increasing demand.
5G services expand to 24 cities
Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima said social media platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) tools were increasing internet data consumption. She explained that people were using more data for videos, online communication and AI-based services.
The minister also discussed Pakistan’s move towards next-generation mobile internet technology. She said the country had moved towards 5G spectrum auctions after a long gap in spectrum allocation.
According to Shaza Fatima, around 1.8 million people are currently using 5G services in Pakistan. The technology has been introduced in 24 cities as the government works to improve mobile connectivity.
Telecom infrastructure faces security challenges
The minister also highlighted problems affecting mobile network services in different areas. She said the theft of telecom towers, diesel and generators was creating difficulties for telecom companies.
Such incidents can interrupt network operations and affect mobile and internet services. Better protection of telecom equipment is therefore important for maintaining reliable connectivity.
The briefing comes as internet use continues to grow across Pakistan. The increasing number of social media users and demand for faster connections are putting more pressure on the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Pakistan’s reported YouTube viewership shows how quickly digital media is growing in the country. TikTok and WhatsApp figures also reflect the increasing use of online platforms in everyday life.
However, higher internet use also creates a need for better network coverage and faster services. The expansion of 5G could help meet this demand, but protecting telecom infrastructure and improving connectivity will remain important challenges.
