WhatsApp introduces four new features to make group chats easier
The WhatsApp new features include Group Status, permanent pinned messages, improved WhatsApp chat history sharing and a mentions and replies filter.
The WhatsApp group chat update is gradually rolling out to Android and iPhone users.
1. Share Status Updates With Specific Groups
WhatsApp has introduced WhatsApp Group Status, allowing users to share updates directly with members of a selected group.
Unlike regular status updates, which are shared with selected contacts, these updates are visible only to members of the chosen group.
Members can view the updates, react to them and share their own statuses. Like regular WhatsApp statuses, Group Status updates disappear automatically after 24 hours.
This feature can help users share pictures, announcements and daily updates with friends, family members or colleagues without showing them to other contacts.
2. Pin Important Messages Permanently
Another major change in the WhatsApp group chat update allows users to keep permanent pinned messages in their conversations.
Previously, users could pin a message for 24 hours, seven days or 30 days. Once the selected period ended, the message was automatically unpinned.
With the new option, users can keep important information pinned without worrying about an expiry date.
This could be useful for keeping meeting schedules, addresses, instructions and important announcements easily accessible.
3. Share Old Messages With New Members
WhatsApp is also improving its WhatsApp chat history feature to help new members understand earlier group discussions.
Previously, users could share recent messages when adding someone to a group. Now, they can also share earlier conversations after the new member has joined.
Users can tap the new member’s name in the group chat and select the option to share recent messages.
The improved WhatsApp message sharing option means new members will not have to ask others to explain previous discussions or forward individual messages.
WhatsApp says shared messages remain protected by end-to-end encryption.

4. Find Important Mentions and Replies Quickly
The fourth addition is a new mentions and replies filter. It collects unread group messages in which someone has mentioned the user or directly replied to their message.
The filter also includes messages containing the @all mention, which is used to notify everyone in a group.
This new mentions and replies filter can help users find important conversations without checking every unread message.
It may be especially useful for people who belong to several active groups and receive a large number of daily notifications.
When Will These Features Arrive?
WhatsApp announced the WhatsApp new features on October 29, 2026. The company is introducing them gradually, so some users may receive the update before others.
The WhatsApp Group Status option and other changes are being released for both Android and iOS devices.
Users can check the Google Play Store or Apple App Store for the latest version of the application. Updating the app may help them receive the WhatsApp group chat update when it becomes available for their accounts.
