ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unveiled Quality of Service (QoS) report and ranked cellular mobile operators (CMOs).

During the fourth quarter of 2024, the PTA conducted quality of service (QoS) survey in 17 cities across the country.

Findings of the survey reveal the poor performance of cellular mobile operators (CMOs) in terms of network coverage, broadband, voice and SMS services.

The PTA carried out the assessment in accordance with the Cellular Mobile Network QoS Regulations 2021. The survey included around 46,000 voice calls and SMS tests, along with 330,000 broadband performance samples.

The survey results on coverage revealed that Ufone ranked first, followed by Zong, Jazz, and Telenor. All Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) are mandated to meet or surpass the QoS benchmarks established under the regulations. To ensure precise benchmarking, the PTA gathered and analyzed a statistically significant sample of at least 200 calls and data sessions to assess key performance parameters.

PTA designed the survey routes to cover the maximum population areas of selected cities. Tests were conducted to evaluate voice, mobile broadband (throughput, latency and web browsing) and SMS services.

According to survey result, Zong’s performance, followed by Ufone was recorded well in the majority of cities with high compliance levels for 4G signal strength.

Jazz showed satisfactory compliance but sometimes ranked lower than Zong and Ufone. Telenor fell behind the other operators. Overall, Zong topped the rankings, followed by Ufone, Jazz, and Telenor.

Jazz ranked first for downloading files. Zong, Ufone and Telenor followed it. For uploading files, Ufone secured the top spot, followed by Jazz, Zong and Telenor.

Download and upload throughputs were assessed using a third-party network testing application. Zong secured the top spot, followed by Jazz, Ufone, and Telenor.

Web page loading time, a key metric for evaluating user experience, offered valuable insights into the performance of CMOs. Jazz ranked first, Zong came second, while Ufone and Telenor ranked lower.
