(Web Desk) In an attempt to rescue his wife from certain death, a young man made the ultimate sacrifice while the woman was later rescued by their family.

This heartbreaking and gripping incident has shaken the nation, leaving many questioning the limits of love and devotion.

Shahid Mewati, just 22 years old and a resident of Kanganpur in Kasur district, had married 19-year-old Salma from Mandi Sadiq Ganj six months ago. Their relationship, however, faced turbulence when Salma returned to her parents’ home after disagreements with her in-laws.

Determined to mend the broken bond, Shahid went to Salma’s house to persuade her to come back. But instead of reconciliation, a heated argument erupted.

In a shocking moment of despair, Salma suddenly jumped into the nearby Sadiqia Canal, attempting to end her life. Without knowing how to swim and thinking only of her safety, Shahid immediately leaped into the water to save her which claimed his life.

Local villagers, alarmed by the family’s cries, rushed to the scene and managed to save Salma. However, Shahid was overpowered by the strong currents and vanished beneath the waves. Rescue 1122’s spokesman Atiqur Rahman revealed that a team of 12 divers carried out a relentless, day-long search before finally recovering Shahid’s lifeless body.
