ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The government has decided to install a firewall to control ‘unwanted messages’ on social media.

According to official sources, the government has also persuaded internet service providers to install a firewall that will have a special feature called “deep packet inspection”.

The deep packet inspection will be able to examine up to the Layer 7 of data. It will also be able to filter data, and the firewall will be able to block data at the IP level instead of at the application level.

The firewall will identify propaganda points on social media and block them. It will also identify the IDs from where the matter is uploaded.

The firewall will be installed on the internet service provider companies, and the cost will be shared by the government and the companies.

The Ministry of Information Technology says that internet service providers are bound to stop illegal content, adding that the installation of the firewall is the jurisdiction of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

However, the PTA is reluctant to comment on the installation of the firewall.
