According to the police, the unit monitors all the social media accounts that propagate hatred towards religion, language, or community and are engaged in any false propaganda against the nation. The unit also takes stern action against such accounts.
The unit, based in Islamabad, identified 1,522 social media accounts involved in spreading hate on X/Twitter, Facebook, and several other online platforms.
The police wrote a letter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and requested the closure of these accounts.
Among the accounts spreading online hate, 462 have been suspended successfully so far. 47 of them were involved in anti-state propaganda, 65 were inciting religious hatred, and 350 were engaged in terrorist activities.
A stern action will be taken against the remaining 1060 accounts.
Police said that curbing extremism was a way to fight terrorism, adding that it helped improve the security situation in the country.
