According to specialists, lithium-ion batteries rely on chemical reactions to generate power. In cold weather, these reactions slow down, reducing the battery’s ability to hold and deliver charge efficiently. As a result, battery capacity can drop by up to 20 percent, causing phones to shut down unexpectedly even when charge remains.

This problem affects nearly all smartphones and electronic devices. Experts advise users to avoid exposing their phones to direct cold air and to keep devices inside pockets or protective covers when outdoors. Using a phone case can significantly reduce cold exposure and help maintain battery temperature.
